Less Waste, More Art!

Recycle for the Arts (R4A), a program of The Green Project, is a trash-to-art storefront that supplies low-cost art supplies to the community. R4A provides art materials to individual artists, schools, art programs, galleries, and other non-profit groups at minimal cost. R4A's mission is to promote creative recycling and reuse in the community, support the arts, and educate the public through events and workshops based on creating art from reused materials.

R4A sells and accepts any items lending themselves to creative projects, including:

Drafting Supplies
Paint & Paintbrushes
Glue, Glitter, Scissors & Tape
Costumes (NO regular clothing items),Wigs & Mannequins

8pm - Worn Again Fashions Show

is a recycled fashion competition that originated in VA in 2005. Designers have 14 days to take the random bag of recycled clothing and materials we give them and create NEW, ORIGINAL, and MIND BLOWING fashions to rock our runway. All proceeds will be donated to Recycle 4 the Arts. On June 27th, 30 chosen artists and designers will strut their talents during this juried event.

6pm - Worn Again Jr. Fashion Show
This will also be the debut of Worn Again Jr. (not juried) Where artists 8 -15 years of age will have the opportunity to take the Worn Again challenge.

9pm - Recycled Dance Competition
Team Worn Again's 1st Recycled Dance Competition. Teams with a minimum of three brave souls will receive a mystery dance routine and three weeks to learn the routine and wow the Worn Again after party!

All Night - Thrift Store Art Edit Show
The night wouldn't be complete without with the Juried Thrift Store Art Edit where artists have 2 weeks to revamp a random piece of thrift store art. All works will be auctioned to benefit Recycle for the Arts.

Drawing Fundamentals with Recycled Materials

A FREE 6 weeks drawing course brought to you by Recycle for the Arts!

Yes, that's what we said FREE!

Classes begin April 8th, and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, 6pm-8pm until May 15th.

Space is VERY limited so you must sign up before each class.

Because this is a free course we encourage participants to donate art supplies to R4A in exchange.

About the teacher:

Garyt Shiflett is a graduate of the VCU School of the Arts with a degree in Drawing and Visual Fundamentals and totally dreamy. Currently Garyt focuses most of his creative energy organizing local events including Worn Again, the recycled fashion extravaganza!

R4A art classes are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of New Orleans
